Happy Weekend! Today is just a quick post, and a few links that you can enjoy over coffee.
Doing a degree at the same time as having three little ones has been a real challenge - becoming self-motivated and self-disciplined has been a learning process, but there are two things that have really helped. Firstly, everyone on my course either has a time-consuming job or they have children, most of the students on my course have both. I am amazed by them all, and it is motivating to know that we are all in this together, we are all busy, we all have excuses that could make us give up, but we keep each other going and I am so thankful for each one of them.
Secondly, I take Saturday's off. I had one mean assignment last year that forced me to study on a Saturday, but other than that, I don't do any work on Saturday's. For us, Saturdays are days when we reconnected as a family, Jake takes Joshua to play golf so they have some catch up time, we all do some housework which helps our home become peaceful again, and we tend to go on a big long walk. We spend time with close friends and family on some Saturday's. We keep Saturday's as simple and restful as possible. It is rejuvenating and it's kept our family close and connected in a season of our life where Jake and I are busy and have lots of pressures.
For me, Saturday's are for reading and drinking my coffee slowly.
SimpleBites is a food blog run by Aimee, she is French Canadian and loves homemade food and learning how to create an urban homestead. I love her articles, it's a blog that I read every week. This one really struck a vein with me, and it's something I bear in mind for my children. I love it because it's about so much more than simply choosing healthy foods.
SimpleMom is another favourite of mine. Tsh (sounds like Tish) has three children, runs the blog and is a graphics designer. She and her family are taking a round the world trip right now and blogging about it. It's so inspiring - Jake and I have spent many evenings thinking about how we could set up our lives so that we could take the children around the world. Her blog includes a huge variety of articles, and I re-read this one last week. The diet I'm following is very closely related to a Paleo Diet, if you have ever thought about following a Paleo or low sugar diet, take a look at this article.
Finally, if you are thinking about taking a sugar fast, check out my Pinterest board, I've got links to lots of great recipes and ideas, including plenty of breakfasts.
Well, happy reading and hope you have a great weekend!
